Like many other Gen Z, and dare I say millennials if they’re not entirely washed up, I am gearing up for the warmer weather and music festival season. Aka the best time of the year. I am crossing a major thing off my bucket list: following through (kind of joking as I have yet to actually follow through on barely anything I plan)! I am attending Governors Ball at the end of May and I am so pumped. Florence + The Machine is one of my favorite artists, I love everything about her.
But I ran into a dilemma. I want to look hot but keep true to the refined beauty and elegance I’ve integrated into my daily life. Of course, there is the line of thinking that it is a festival and I could be “wild” and come out unscathed but in the age of social media that is unlikely. The last thing I need is my first time going viral to be from my assets hanging out and me doing a split in the grass. The split is probable but I want to provide some illusion and mystery to the look. I want to always project my truest self even when enjoying my first 21+ concert.
I am the first advocate to tell one to Google it but I came up relatively short in this department. The most helpful article I found was from WhoWhatWear that addressed festival gear for woman over 30. While I am only entering my 20s, I found some of these ideas helpful and one even coincided with one of the clothing articles I picked out.
Below are 5 pieces I compiled and believe can be pulled together to give a fun look that isn’t bordering on showing too much.
Simon Porte Jacquemus, my newest adoration and man I want to marry, this past season has perfectly captured my aspirations for spring/summer. His designs are beautiful and flowy. They don’t necessarily hide the curves of women as they accentuate and provide cushiony-fabric comfort for the body. I couldn’t help but choose two dresses from him.
I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it on Instagram. I couldn’t tell much from the angle when it made its’ Fashion Week debut but the way the dress blew through the wind, I was instantly reminiscent of warm summer nights.
This high-low is the perfect dress, with an extended longline in the front and super mini in the back. Both are lightweight enough to wear and sufficient for partying in but aren’t tasteless. Important. Unfortunately both are out of my price range but I will be searching for similar styles to add to my closet.
From my religious upbringing I was accustomed to wearing tights under dresses and skirts so naturally the moment I was able to, I ditched them. Older, wiser and tempted by the new rising of printed tights I am ready for a comeback. I plan on intertwining them into my festival outfits since I am into very short skirts and shorts.
I’ve read that sneakers are the go-to shoe for concerts and festivals but I am not a sneaker lady. I don’t own any aside from my Fenty Pumas and an old pair of converse that never see the light. I am constantly fighting against the pressure to wear sneakers daily but I will admit a nice FLAT one can look nice when styled correctly. Therefore these are the only pair of sneakers I am cosigning.
SN: I refuse to do the cute bootie trend for this festival season because I literally suffered in Brooklyn last month when I only packed combat boots. I still can’t wear those boots without my feet crying which is depressing as those were my everyday shoes.
I fell in love with heels and sandals, most notably Nicole Saldana’ entire collection however that is out of my price range. These Campbell sandals are the perfect second option and more than likely the exact pair I will be packing. I love how feminine these types of shoes are; they give me an essence of beauty and simplicity. I aimed for a sandal with a slight heel because the festival does not have seats and I would like some sort of elevation for my feet. I also try to incorporate a heel into my outfits five out of seven days a week.
I absolutely can’t wait to put my looks together for Governors Ball featuring these items (or similar)! I am debating on doing a vlog that weekend or just capturing moments to do a longer blog post afterwards. Let me know what you would rather see and you’re favorite festival/summer trends.
