I wrote this poem at the beginning of summer 2019. It was inspired by an inkling I had regarding the impending separation of me and those I held closest. I know now the answer was “no” but it doesn’t matter because God is “yes and amen”.
Will we still be friends after I’m cookie cutter
Returning to my focused and firm roots
Will you stay when I’m on the straight-and-narrow
Nothing extra
Me and a tunnel vision
I can’t tell if you’re true
Hence the reason for question
You relished in the old
But will spit on the new
Not even aware
What the new will do for you
The old was truthfully bitter
And was sure to leave it’s mark
The new is just the opposite
And is sure to touch the heart
If the answer is indubitably yes
Then pardon the request
But will you be around
While I continue on this quest?
My journey will be long and hard
But I am up to the test
With God on my side
All I do will be blessed
